What moves me to draw are the changing forms around me: clouds as signs that manifest themselves in everything—in the interior, in the landscape, in the mind. Like in the turning of pages through which the letters scatter and vanish into the depths; in the seemingly motionless chair that stands tensely in the corner like a heron, waiting for the movement to come; in the ever-shifting objects around me—a fruit bowl, a glass with brushes; and also in the cloudlike fall of a tree’s leaves, its silhouette in backlight, the upward and downward movements of its branches, in the drawings of its bark and the interstices of trunks and what lies beneath them, in the undulations of the surface as if the ground were a flying carpet beneath which the earth moves like air. Those movements— and those of bushes and plants, of walking and looking—are at once a metaphor for the flowing together of forms and patterns, of being connected. Living traces of the intangible.
Also, frozen motion: the slowed-down time of crumbling leaves, broken sentences fallen from their text, of a desiccated lemon or rotting pumpkin, of coppice that points to something, protruding roots, inimitable branchings, of inscrutable webs, silken threads, filaments and fungi, of bacteria, microbes — in their invisibility they render connections visible. And those who look closely, either with or without a microscope, discern them everywhere and know themselves to be spun into countless forms of life.
